You are reincarnated into a fantasy otome game you love. Unfortunately, you are not the beautiful and lovely Protagonist Penelope. Rather, you her romantic rival, the arrogant, petty, and unlovable villainess who is rude to Penelope whenever, wherever. What’s worse is that you are doomed to be killed or imprisoned in every single route. How can you avoid all the bad endings?

Reincarnated as the Unlovable Villainess?! is a solo journaling game. To play this game, you will need at least 1d6, 1d20, and a method of recording your game.

While the title and setting of this game play into the tropes of various webtoons, light novels, manga, anime, and otome games, the gender presentation of the Villainess and the Protagonist is not a crucial aspect. Although she/her pronouns are used for simplicity, players of any gender can create and play characters of any gender presentation. Feel free to change Penelope's name into Philip or Phoenix or Pink Panda if you wish.

Now comes with a paranormal and a wuxia setting.

Special thanks to kiwinojam and nanamaru for their creative ideas and inspirations, which contributed to the development of the 15 Hearts and Time Travel optional rules.

Thank you to FangzV for creating a spreadsheet for the game!

I really love this game! I'm no good at habits, so I've been coming back to play a day or two of my playthrough over the last few months. I think so much about this game incentivises thinking a lot about character, personality, what information each character has and what impact that has on all their relationships... it's the kind of writing heavy lifting I usually have no motivation to actually do but this game makes it not just fun but necessary! I need to know what's going on in Pantaleon the assassin-jester's head here and why, and how the revelation of a particular secret might affect them...!!

Kumada said it better below, but I love how the rules here kind of trap you into interesting story, make you build your own cage to react to, to calculatedly go with or push against. The mechanical choices you make feel both important and precarious, you're carefully managing resources in a way that makes the elements of chance very dramatic. This kind of invitation to participate in building a complicated trap for yourself is absolutely what I want from a solo game! And it's hard to find such a game where you can trust the system to match up so well with the kind of story you're telling. Ah, it's really smart.

I'm rooting deeply for my Protagonist to become a love interest, but the current situation - in which the villain's only really romantic scenes are with the protagonist (who lacks a heart meter), so all the relationship benefits of positive scenes must mechanically go to a watching or involved LI (with a choice of a) bitter murderous ex, b) time travelling political agent from rival kingdom, or c) guard so convinced of the villain's evil that the game is bending around the power of his hatred) - is so interesting and so perfectly captures the tension between System and reincarnator (through productive tension between game rules and me!). I love how this makes the twists genuinely uncertain even to me, because they rely on multiple interconnected systems. It's very possible the Protagonist never gains a heart meter, and the reincarnator's desperate efforts to secure their survival by cosying up to them comes to a tragic nothing, a near-inevitable playing out of the original story's beats. All this in a game about trying to escape your narrative fate... it's so good! Thanks for writing :)

I'm currently at Day 11, and my play log is... longer than any one thing I've written since my dissertation........ If I ever finish the game, I'll be sure to share it. Thank you for writing!

love this review, it echoes my own playthrus with this game sm. <3 esp with the time travel rules, its so good.

Hi so I'm just practicing coding and I used the mechanics and prompts in this game as the basis for my code. I don't plan on profiting of it or even releasing it publicly as a game but I wanna know if you'd be okay with me just sharing the process on tiktok

(+1)

I've been doing the same in Twine Sugarcube, what a coincidence lmao. If you're still working on it, good luck!

do either of u plan on sharing ur work (as like a 3rd party, community thing)? id love to see it!

I've been blogging about my playthrough and now all my friends are playing it too. 😂

10/10 would die and come back as a villainess again. I love this trope so much, and your game encapsulates it so well. I seriously adore it. ♥

Such a great game. The rules are well thought out. A little confusing at first, but once I was not overwhelmed, they were easier to understand. It is nice because you can make it as funny or dramatic as you want. This can be played in one sitting or over a course of days. The only thing I cannot seem to understand is the extra Date Event tables after the 10 heart date event table. I reread the rules and find nothing that tells me when that table is supposed to be used specifically.

I have assumed it is used after the 10 heart date as either an extra scene or to be used on day 30 for a big confession scene. Either why even without it, the game is fun. I plan to play all the versions and do the extended rules!

I just assumed the "Date Events" table is an optional table that is there to give you prompts/inspiration for any date if you don't have an idea on your own.

Let's assume 1 Heart date - you get: (2) You two are forced (2) into the Dark Forest where you learn (6) they have a secret pet...

That doesn't give you much to go on so you decide to use "Date Event" table for more info to flesh out the encounter: (1) protect (4) hate, encounter (5,3) the mob/crowd...

...so that helps to paint the scene. You are forced deeper into the forest by a mob with pitchforks and torches, but it turns out they are not after hated Villainess but after a strange looking fantastical creature. LI surprises you by passionately protecting dangerous beast from the Mob, claiming it's friendly. It looks scary with its stings and fangs, but as soon as it sees the LI it coos and rubs its scary looking head on their cheek. LI os determined to protect his pet from the ignorant and prejudiced crowd. You spend rest of the meeting playing with the weird creature and getting to know your LI better...

And I assume the table next to it - "Scenarios" is to help with that d20 list of daily events.

(+1)

Hey thanks! Honestly I should have thought about doing that from the beginning. I have taken your advice and it helps a lot when I struggle with a scenario I just use the table

(+3)

Playing through the game at the moment and writing down what's happening! I actually absolutely adore this game and I'm at the edge of my seat with each roll.

I'll probably link the finished story here when I'm done but man this has been an amazing ride.

Day 1 gave me the funniest plot twist of turning the Protagonist into a Love interest and some of her endings and rolls have gone down the route of a yandere lesbian protagonist who's intent on her villainess. Which is making me laugh really hard.

(+1)

Played through this game today and had a great time! Villainess Fabrizia managed to survive and find love, but it was a fun challenge. Looking forward to trying the expansions/alternates too!

Hi, I'm about to play the game for the first time and I have a couple of questions:

1. Can I create my own custom roles/backgrounds that fit my setting better, as long as they can be used in a scenario?

2. When turning a BE counter up or down, do I focus on the most imminent BE or can I choose freely which one to change?

3. How do I decide which LI is involved in a scenario? Do I choose freely, do I choose the most logic one for the scene or do I roll to decide randomly?

4. I'm not sure how date rewards works. Do I keep them aside as "bonuses" and use them in a scenario that comes after the date in case of need to modify a bad result?

Thanks! I can't wait to start my game!

Hi

1. Yes. Feel free to do so

2. Yes. You can choose whichever one you prefer

3. You can choose freely. I personally have a mix of both. Sometimes I roll for it (even how many of them are present), sometimes I just go with whomever I want in this scene

4. Yes. You can use the reward whenever you prefer. You don't have to use it at all if you don't want it.

Thanks for the clarification!

I have one more question: when I roll a scenario I already did in a previous day and roll the d6 to see if the situation takes a positive or negative turn, do I still roll to resolve the scene after that?

Does that mean that I can have, let's say, a positive turn of the previous scenario, but a failure for the villainess' actions?

Yes! You are completely correct. The situation could become better than the previous scenario, and the villainess can still mess it up for whatever reasons. Or vice versa where it becomes worse but the villainess saves the day.

(+2)

hi, just wanted to say that I haven't had the time to finish a whole "playthrough" yet, but I'm about 10 days in and having a blast!

(+2)

Starting a little journaling live-blog. Really enjoy the mechanics and hopefully the next month will be filled with twists and thrills.

Reincarnated As The Unloveable Villainess?! is a mini otome isekai solo rpg with splendid presentation and maybe one of the best banners I've seen on itchio; laser guided precision old-school shoujo, a Glass Mask panel backlit by lovely sherbet colors.

Reincarnated's PDF is actually three PDFs, at 8 pages each, plus three Chinese translations of the same. They're all standalone, you don't have to read all three, and they have the same broad structure. However they're different in their specifics, letting you choose between traditional otome fantasy, supernatural, and wuxia flavors.

Mechanically, Reincarnated does a strong job of replicating the traditional gameflow of a otome. You generate the villainess you've reincarnated as, you generate the ostensible protagonist of the story, and you generate the love interests the protagonist is supposed to be romancing. And then you have encounters with these characters, slowly raising their affection with you.

This is a game you can lose, and there's a round structure with pre-set bad ends you can qualify for.  You can also romance all of the love interests, date and progress your relationships, and get bonuses when they fall in love with you.

Dice-wise, you have a two stat split---Lore and Love---and you roll d6s under each to pass checks. Checks are randomly generated, and you get a small bonus if you can leverage bits from your character creation in a situation. Rolling a stat exactly is a crit, and rolling a 6 is a crit fail. You always use your best die, so when you can bring in your background you have good odds of doing decently. Succeeding checks brings your Bad End meter down, and failing them brings it up, and if it isn't at zero when you reach a Bad End checkpoint you game over.

If you do make it through thirty rounds, the end scoring system takes into account both your relationships with the love interests and how much you've buffed your stats. In kind of a surprising progression fantasy twist, if you're rocking maximum Love/Lore you can choose to wave all of this dating aside and pursue ultimate power. It's charming, and there's a lot of variation both here and throughout the game. Lots of journaling ttrpg systems are deliberately loose mechanically, but Reincarnated kind of builds a cage of rules to force you into interesting scenes. It's neat.

In terms of writing, the roll tables are precise, confident, and fine tuned to duplicate the feel of the source medium. There's metaplot, drama with the protagonist, backstory for the love interests, galas and duels and the love interests getting into situations and uh oh the love interests are injured on your doorstep and there's only one bed. The plot twists that you get on a critical failure are especially interesting, and a lot of them start straying into high octane metafiction. Metafiction itself is pretty comfortable isekai territory, but "a love interest is aware of the heart meter"---we have now passed the border into very good and interesting horror.

In fact, the deeper you push into the PDF, the more it seems like that is an extremely intentional sublayer to the game. There's player support tools for things like timelooping and adding new love interests and expanding the upper and lower bounds of the affection meter, as well as for dating the protagonist (in true Katarina Claes fashion), but the game pushes back and distorts the more you interact with it on this fundamental level. If love interests really hate you, they automatically induce new critical failure twists, and their hatred for you "transcends the storyline." And if love interests love you beyond the normal cap of the hearts meter, they erase themselves from existence across all timelines to clear obstacles from your way.

And the more you timeloop, the more the game around you starts to degrade.

The easy bad ends and replayability push you towards running into this part of the game eventually---one "but wait, I can fix it" and suddenly you're doing a Re: Zero.

I don't think it is incorrect to say that this is a masterpiece.

Reincarnated is an excellent replication of genre that then has a second type of game lurking inside it like a xenomorph. You can play it for a fun cozy otome time, or you can play it to fall into a spiral of melodrama and clutching at the fading threads of a happy ending that may have never been possible or that may have been changed irreversibly by your mere observation of it. Or you can date three princes and a plucky country girl!

If you're on the fence about this one, or about solo games, or about otome, or really about anything in general you should get it. 10/10. Went in with expectations high and it still completely surpassed them.

Minor Issues:

-On page 1 of all three PDFs, on a roll of a 6 on the 10 Hearts event, "roll an additioanl"

-On page 2 of all three PDFs, if you roll lower than the related attribute, "how the action has helped you stalled your death" this should be stall

-On page 3, in just the fantasy PDF, "if you reach 10 Hearts with an LI" is missing pink on the I

-In this font, it's pretty hard to visually discern + and - from each other. This isn't a huge deal, it's usually clear from context, but sometimes I had to squint at the page.

-Can the Bad End counter go negative? If not, it seems like you can kinda get torpedoed by bad luck if you're at 0 but roll a failure right before the bad end round. Granted, sudden bad end for no reason is kinda standard visual novel territory, and you can just timeloop yourself out of it, but I couldn't figure out if this was intended.

(+2)

Omg thanks for the detailed and long review! I really enjoyed reading it. And the banner is 100% inspired by exactly Glass Mask!

It's intentional to have some slightly horror element. In my head, there are three different "players" in the game, the actual player, the person in the modern world before reincarnation, and the villainess. I really wanted to capture the feeling of even the person in the villainess' body getting shocked by the plot twists. I don't know if it makes sense.

Thank for listing the issues too! I'll make some changes soon and upload a new version (after I finish writing the new setting I've been planning to finish). I've heard several issues with the font so I'd probably change that too.

The bad end counter doesn't go to negative. I somewhat assume people would choose to lower love points with a RO. But I realize I didn't account for the worst possible outcome when a critical failure happens right before the last BE.

Thank you for writing the game! It's phenomenal.

(1 edit)

Hi! I really enjoyed playing your game! It was fun, dramatic and made me rethink about critical failure’s importance…lol

Also I’m a big fan of reincarnation novels, and the variety of scenarious, plot twists etc. are incredible. I love your game and I hope I could play with my friends, so they could also enjoy it!

So I would like to ask you about translating your game into Russian. May I do it? <3

(+1)

Thanks for playing the game! I hope you've found a way to turn it into a multiplayer game with your friends. And you absolutely can translate it!

OMG!!!11! Thanks for the permission! I’ll text you when the translation is ready <3

Um, I don't know what's going on with your translation (there's not much text in the booklet), but I did and posted a translation of the main booklet on a beon - with attribution and a link to the source, of course. It's not in PDF format, just the text.
You can use it if you want.

(3 edits)

Hello! I looked through your translation and it's great, you made a wonderful job <3
Unfortunately, I haven't heard about this website. If you want, I can make a pdf-file with your translation. Will it be OK for u? (and maybe post pdf here and in VK so more people could find it?)
P.S. Maybe then I will just make a translation of paranormal and wuxia scenarios :)

Feel free to use. But it hasn't been proofread, so there are likely to be typos.
Беон когда-то был СНГшной платформой с блогами (этакий "ЖЖ для маленьких", если очень утрировать). Закрылся в 2019, но нашлись люди, решившие сделать клоны/духовных последователей. Собственно, это один из.

this is my first time playing a solo journaling game! and i've pretty much completed my set up to run the first run of the story LSDKFJSLDFKJ  i just got waaaay too invested in my world building atp bc lowk...this WRITES itself..... i rolled some dice to let it speak to me for my LI creation and wow...they TURNED OUT REAL GOOD??? (yes i gave them first names...for immersion 🙂‍↕️)  like. dude. this writes itself and i can't wait to get it started!!! i'll let you know if my villainess lives to see another day 🤠

can't wait to get back to you to tell you how it goes! <3

Ohhh I'm so interested to see it!! And honestly, sometimes the dice will just write the story and I'm always so surprised when everything somehow fits. I hope you have/had fun!

i cant find the actual download file, please help

(+1)

Hey! I can't find it either.  Did you work it out? If so, please let me know!

For a plot twist 12, is that a person from the player's actual life or from a previous timeline (assuming regression), or should we create a pre-reincarnation persona?

Feels weird to self-insert, but I'm game if that's what the prompt suggests.

Not the actual player (yourself) but there character you're playing before they reincarnated. It doesn't have to be too complicated though.

(+1)

I made an account for this comment!

I'm about a third of the way through my first playthrough (it's taking me awhile. Every time I try to write just a short blurb for an entry I end up with several long paragraphs) and I LOVE this game! I already can't wait for my next go-around. I desperately want to try the other settings, but I'm also clamoring to replay the default one! What a problem to have. I love it so much. I think it's probably my favorite solo rpg, up there with Ironsworn.

I think my only real minor quibble would be that attributes feel a bit clunky. I split them Lore: 4, Love: 2 and it's been easier than I thought it would be not to just lean on my best stat. That said, I think if I'd reversed them then there wouldn't be much of a reason not to just use Love every time, since it's so versatile. I'm wondering if some incentive to use the weaker stat might help prompt people into mixing it up. Maybe taking a penalty if you use the same stat too many times in a row? Or different types of rewards or scenario unlocks depending on if you succeeded with a Lore or Love roll a certain number of times? This is all hypothetical since I don't actually anticipate any changes to the game at this stage, it's just one of the only things that really left me wondering what to do early on. The Date rolls being only flavor also felt a bit off, since I tend to expect more impact from dice rolling, but at the same time I don't really think adding penalties to Dates would feel great, so I can't really complain about it, either. It definitely leads to some funny moments.

Overall, it's an excellent game I made a whole Obsidian vault around, and I don't regret a single minute I've spent with it. It's perfect. Thank you so much.

Highlights for this run so I don't explode keeping them in:

Critical failure on the FIRST ROLL of the FIRST DAY that gets me the plot twist of Penelope as a love interest (!!!) She'd rolled Enemies to Lovers with the Prince (another LI) my villain(ess) was the manservant of (my character ended up a guy due to random events during character creation oop) and Admiration for the villainess, so this ended up working out when she read the Prince the riot act when she intervened in the Day 1 confrontation between my freaking out character and the Prince. She keeps rolling 5s and 6s on their dates, while everyone else never gets higher than a 3. It's very cute.

BUT. The very last Bad End of the game, landing on Day 30, is Penelope tricking my character into being executed by the crown! A protagonist, LI, AND Final Boss?! (This one's counter is at 7, so it's a large looming ominous Thing on the horizon. Penelope is absolutely lovely and seems to adore my character, so I have no idea what still makes that a possibility and I'm scared to find out. I love it.)

My favorite LI from character creation has rolled a 1 on both dates he's been on with my character. My character is constantly scared for his life around this guy who is a Sunshine Golden Retriever who just so happens to be a ruthless assassin with the most brutal Bad End from the main game :) No idea why things could possibly be so tense between them :) (They have no idea what to do with each other. I have given up on my dreams of them being end game to laugh about it.)

Currently my character and Penelope are badly traumatized from a bandit attack they both only survived because the yandere love interest (prep rolls: obsessed with Penelope and betrothed to the villainess, I'm scared) put it down viciously, but my character is Perfectly Fine Obviously Haha. That's not REALLY his body that got seriously injured. He'll be right as rain once he finds a way back home! :) :) :)

It took kind of a dark turn recently, so I need to introduce some absurdity soon, if the prompt tables will COOPERATE.

Anyway, thank you so much for making this game, especially for free. I will be back to donate once I'm through this rough patch for sure. Thank you again!

(+1)

Thank you for the comment and welcome to itch.io!

Your game sounds intense (very dangerous life the villain lives lol). It's very interesting to see Penelope's role in every playthrough. The Day 1 crit fail shows that Penelope is into the villain and not any of those LIs, clearly! And I also had a sunshine gold retriever LI that's the most awful to the villainess once. And I really needed that time travelling to survive because he just kept killing me!

Thanks for the suggestions for the rules. I've seen the same sort of issue being raised before so I thought about it a bit. There's also another thing where I think people want to see plot twist happens but that's purely based on luck. I think my plan is to maybe have it so that each time you fail you mark 1. When you reach 3, you roll on the plot twist table. But I don't know is this too much to keep track of, when there's already a bunch of other things. Or will the plot twist happens way too many times. Or maybe I can also just take the Laser and Feeling's way of the stat moving up and down after each roll? I've not decided yet.

And yeah, with the date, it's more of a reward for the player doing so well, so I don't like the idea of it having a mechanical bonus or penalty. I'll see if I can come up with other things. Though right now, it's probably just going to stay that way.

Thanks for the long comment again! I love reading it :D <3

To be honest I have completely opposite opinion - that Lore is OP, and if you argue good enough you could resolve any issue that arises in the game with prior knowledge.

I guess, in the end it comes down to "narrative first" principle. Narrate the scene first and decode what to roll, not cheese the rolls to make the game easier.

(+1)

I just downloaded both the paranormal and fantasy settings and I'm super excited to play this game! (Even though I'm debating on which one to start with.)

By the way, I would love to see you add more settings to the game like medieval, non-fantasy historical, and 00's high school shoujo romcom just to name a few.

(+1)

Thanks for downloading there game. Those are some really fun settings. I'd love to revisit this game and add new ones in the future. Maybe the high school shoujo one could be the less gruesome one (no more execution endings).

I have a question as well, even though the main game is an otome game, could we also change the format to a manga, anime, novel or webcomic if we don't want the story to take place in an otome game?

High school shoujo setting being less gruesome is the greatest idea ever! (Maybe instead of being killed, the villainess might either end up losing everything, arrested, or end up in a mental hospital).

But anyways, good luck on your other projects!

You can change it however you want! There may be a bit of tweaking with naming it Bad Endings if it's not a game, I suppose. But it could just be named as potential plot or whatnot. I don't think it matters much!

(+1)

I would love to get more settings. I started this game yesterday and I love this!

(+1)

Thanks! I'd love to make more settings too!!

We should make a discussion post and share some ideas.

I agree. I once suggested that we or the creator should make a community post and share ideas.

I've been playing your game for the past few days and I love it! I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Thanks!! I'm glad you're having fun :D

(+1)

I never thought I'd find something so specific :''D
I really like stories that revolve around this theme. Thank you for sharing it <3

(+3)

Haha. You can tell I was consuming a lot of reincarnated into villainess type webtoons and stories when I made the game

(+1)

Hello! I have a couple of questions about permanent rewards and time travel. If I travel back in time, do all permanent rewards carry over? Or is it just the attributes?

Also, let's say that a love interest has 10 hearts, you get the permanent reward, and you go back in time, and their hearts reset. If you raise their hearts back to 10, do you get an additional permanent reward, or is it always one permanent reward per love interest?

(+2)

Hi! Yes, all the permanent rewards carry over. And you will keep getting new rewards each time you get them back to 10.

hi there

I tried buying this as part of the Queer Game 2025 Bundle but the $10 option isn’t working

I’ve downloaded the free copy and love your game. How do I leave a 5 star rating for you?

Hi! I don't know about mobile, but on desktop, I think you can click "rate this game" on the right side of the game's page. Thanks for trying the game!

thank you

(1 edit)

Hi, I'm starting my first playthrough, and I'm a little confused by the love and lore stats.

How do we determine which stat is applicable for the scenario? I thought it might be vibes, but I wanted to be sure.

Also, how do our roles and backgrounds apply to the stats, or are they unrelated?

I'm super excited to see if my girl Ravena survives!

(+1)

Hi! The rule for increasing the stats is under 10 Hearts rewards. You don't have to roll for it even though it's in a numbered list.

It's vibe based and just depends on what you use. If you use your knowledge its lore (example: I've played this part of the game so I know what to say, I've read about the setting so I know this village has gold, I've read the exclusive comic so I know this love interest's weakness), and basically everything else is love (example: I'm dancing with this character, I'm trying to deescalate by cracking a joke, I'm bandaging this love interest and getting real close).

Roles and backgrounds only matter in the mechanic when it's being used while resolving the dice roll. So it's like you're a healer princess and you use your healing power to heal someone, or you use your princess authority to order someone to bring you herbs, then you roll with 2 d6 and choose the better option. Other than that, it's unrelated and just for narrative purposes.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank You!

Finished my play through! I had a few more questions but it’s late so I’ll just type the ones I have right now. For the 10 Heart reward, do you roll to see what permanent reward it is? Or do you get to choose? How would you get combined stats over 7/10? Is there another way of raising Love and Lore other than 10 heart rewards?

Woohoo! Hope your character survived till the end

- You choose whatever reward you want. You can also roll if you prefer that. You can also get the same rewards more than once if you want.

- That is the only way so if you want the ending with high combined stats, you kind of need to play with the extra time traveling rule.

got it! When re rolling an event by the way, if the previous event was a crit success, would an even roll trigger the same crit success? Also, I’m a little confused by the time travel function :,) what does it mean attributes stay the same? (Love and Lore Stats? Or unused gifts?) what doesn’t stay the same? Ie are all the bad endings and counters reset or is it the same as last game (ie the last game I ended with BE5 at 4 and BE6 at 7).

I'm sorry but I don't really understand the first question 😭😭

As for attributes stay the same, it's the Love and Lore stats. In this way you can keep upping your Love and Lore until they reach the highest number. Everything stays the same. The BE and counter and heart resets back to that day. So if you have 1 heart with LI1 on day 2 but reach 3 hearts with LI1 on day 3, if you go back to day 2, LI1's heart will be the same as pervious' day 2 (1 heart). If you go back to day 3 and does not roll the same result for the event, which means you don't get to increase the heart, then it's still 1 heart. If you go back to day 4, you have 3 hearts.

Honestly, it could be a bit complicated and convoluted (I should fix it somehow).  So my recommendation for every solo player is just... do whatever you think is the easiest and most fun. If you want to keep everything, you can keep everything. If you want to pick a day to go back to, don't roll and just pick a day.

sorry, I could’ve phrase it better haha. When you reroll the same number for a prompt, it says to roll a dice. If odd it takes a bad turn if even a good turn. I took it as if the original result was good and I rolled even it would repeat the same result. However, what if my original result was a critical success? Would an even roll recreate that or just a normal success?

Sorry for all the questions, I know Solo TTRPG like many TTRPGs involves a lot of improvisation, but I want to make sure I understand things clearly/what to improvise. I’ll have to check my log for what my love stats were for the day I transplanted to. Thank you for the clarification! My first run was fun! I survived but got an unhappy reverse harem where two of the LIs wanted me to end them and the third (who I was hopeful for a good ending) gave my MC an identity crisis by saying he was transplanted in game but earlier in timeline to where he forgot his original name and blended with the character 🤡. Anyway, trying the fantasy run now and excited to continue with time travel rules. :) one more thing, for time travel plot twist I rolled a ‘new character unknown to you starts to get close to Penelope’, is this a potential LI or?

I may have misunderstood this question so let me know if that's the case. When you roll a die after rerolling the prompt, this is outside of your challenge roll. So it doesn't matter if it was a success/failure or critical success/failure before. If you roll the same prompt, let's say someone dug up a scandal, and last round it was a crit success which everyone believed you and that someone was now in jail, and this time, you roll an odd number, it takes a bad turn. Maybe the person in jail was assassinated and people thought you are the one that ordered the assassination. Now you roll the resolve the prompt.

And don't worry about the questions! It's not that I don't want to answer questions but more like I personally feel insecure about the time travelling rule because I now feel like it's too convoluted 💀

God, your LIs are depressing 😭😭😭And full of plot twists lol.

This isn't a potential LI! But they're now in the pool of potential LIs if you roll the one where a minor character becomes another LI.

Mechanically, do date results (ie it went fine) mean anything or are they there just for lore purposes?

It's only for narrative purposes.

Thank you! I assumed so and the roll result made for some spicy drama anyway haha :)

Yes! Every decision for the rules have max drama/angst in mind lol

Yesss aldfkasf when I first rolled for the LIs I fell in love with the messy workplace drama possible ... LI 1 and MC were co workers LI 2 was cousin to LI 1 and mentor protegee relationship with MC and LI 3 was rivals with MC and enemy with LI 2... the failed roll was on a three heart date with LI 3 where MC noted how they were similar (rolled the same secret for them not being able to fulfill their duty) and he stormed off lol. totally just fuming over LI 2 and not jealous not at all ladf;jasfjs

So, I've had a playthrough.

Won the game. For first 15 days I thought the game is too easy, but then I was out of rewards, and my luck has run out.

Had a plot twist 2 days before BE no.5 - Penelope was killed, thus striking that BE as she was the main instigator there.

Had many repeated events, people mocking me and bringing scandals, criticizing my relationship with Penlelope, oh boy, they couldn't just let me be... The secondary roll was always odd making things progressively worse, up until day 30 when the roll was even, and crown wrote a letter instructing them to kindly fornicate upon themselves and leave me be.

Overall fun game, I appreciate all the tropes and breaking of fourth wall. It's a bit of metagame inception.

Ohh this is so cool! I love your handwriting!! I don't know why but Penelope is always killed in my games... I think it's kind of cursed...

And when the villain(ess) just want to live a normal life but nooo, the other characters refused to let it go. But at least they're free at last!

Why, thank you.

Before I played I read some comments and those were like "so this person died, and this person died, and..." And I was like - I need to figure out how to kill Febshire, because this LI mfer is responsible for 3 of my BEs.

And then nobody died for like 2/3 of the game. Imagine my shock when Penelope died. And I asked oracles some questions and used the current scenario/event for the day, and it was not me... Somebody just showed her out of the balcony during the ball.

The funny thing is she didn't even get much of romantic interaction with LIs, because when they were quite amicable to me (bethroved/forbidden love/one sided love), Penelope feelings for them were negative (annoyance/fear/distrust)...

I have no Idea why everyone wanted me dead, I was lovely.

Me when one LI is responsible for 5 BEs 💀Why do you hate me so much bunny boy??

I'm always sad when Penelope died cause she's always lovely to me in all the games. She just keeps dying...

When Penelope and the Villain(ess) are closer than Penelope with her ROs lol. I love how the dice wanted to tell a certain story with your setup.

Wow, did you bind the pages in a notebook after or something? I love the cover design here and your handwriting is leagues neater than mine haha.

(+1)

Yes. I have divided the book into pages (from columns) and bound sewn board binding style.

The endings are a spread.

Thank you for the compliment.

(+2)

Hello! I wanted to ask, do you roll the dice according to attribute ONLY when you roll the same scenario again, or do you do it for all scenarios? Also it's written that

"When you reach 1, 3, 6, and 10 Hearts for the first time in a playthrough, you will have a Date event with that LI. After the date, you will gain a one time reward if reaching 1, 3, and 6 Hearts, and a permanent reward if reaching 10 Hearts. "
I didn't understand this part, it would be great if you could explain it a bit more. Thank you ^^

  1.  You roll the dice and compare to your attribute every time you roll a scenario (so once per round/day).
  2. When each Love Interest's heart metre reaches 1, 3, 6 and 10 hearts for the first time in your playthrough (this is not counting the option time travelling rule), you will get a date event the next day before the scenario occurs. For each date event, roll the appropriate date event tables (should be on page 6). Then after that, you get a reward listed under the Hearts section (should be on the right most column on page 1).
    1. For example, for 1 Heart reward, you may roll an additional die and choose the best outcome, whenever you want to. But you can only do this once. The 3 Hearts and 6 Hearts rewards are the same. You can only use that reward once.
    2. For 10 Hearts reward, there are 6 options. You can roll or choose one that you prefer. Unlike 1, 3, 6 Hearts reward, the reward is permanent. For example, if you pick the reward "choose an additional number for critical success", the number that you pick will be your additional critical success number no matter how many rounds have passed. If you choose "roll an additional die. Choose the best outcome", you roll +1d6 from now on until the end of the game.

I hope it clarifies the rule somewhat. Please let me know if you have more questions!

tysm <3

Hello.

Regarding those temporary one-use rewards.

1. Each LI grants them (so technically you can have 3 or more, Heart 3 rewards but not more than 1 per LI, even if his heart level goes down and then up again)?

2. Are they bankable for later use, or do those apply just to the closest/next roll?

Hi!

1) Yes, you are right 100%. Each LI grants them once. So if you have 5 LI, theoretically you can get 5 Heart 3 rewards etc.

2) Yes. You can use them whenever you want!

Thank you for clarifying.

I'm in love with this! I just have one doubt about the Bad Ending counter, when the counter for the first bad ending reaches zero, do we start on the next BE counter (BE2) on the next day, or only after we reach the date of the BE1? Me and my friend got confused at this bc we each understood one thing haha

(1 edit)

Hi! So you can always choose any BE to lower or up the counter after you roll. So I guess in this case, it doesn't matter!

Oh I see, thank you!!

(+2)

Love the genre and LOVE the Chinese translation! (Especially that it's in Traditional Chinese; easier for me to read!) This is a brilliant idea and I can't wait to try out all the settings!

(+3)

Been playing this with a bunch of friends and we are having so much fun. Love how robust all the tables are, especially the scenarios. I also appreciate how much variation there is in the tables for each playset. Such a good game!

My villainess in the wuxia setting just got force-fed poison by an LI on a date 😂

I made a Google doc template to keep track of stats and journal all in the same place. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CPdyAYufUernDKfiJzo48agVgY7gqOUHeok4lyiCQks/...

(+1)

Sorry! I thought I replied to you already 😭Thanks for playing the game! I can only write Traditional Chinese so that's usually the one I pick if I only make one Chinese translated work haha (though computer makes it easy to just change it).

Thanks for making the Google doc! I'd love to have it in the description of it's ok.

Also, being force-fed poison sounds like a typical date for our villainess 💀 What a romantic way to strengthen the relationship.

Yep! Feel free to include the doc in the description! I hope this will get more people playing 😈 I need more people to play this game!!

Otome Villainess Reincarnations are one of my favorite sub-subgenre genres. I'm looking forward to playing this, and in preparation, I've made some edits to FangzV's spreadsheet.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MdFPW4Sl1pI47dhl5scuv3wrZt1T30nH-I_X8-C2..

(+1)

I hope you enjoy playing the game! I love reincarnation stories especially the villainess ones as well haha. Can I add your spreadsheet alongside FangzV's spreadsheet as well in the description?

(+1)

Feel free, and thanks for making the game. It was a blast.

I didn't think my villainess would survive, with the endings rolling so close to each other, but the date bonuses and one conveniently timed character death had her just barely scrape by. Choosing when to apply the bonuses, if they made narrative sense, added more tension then I expected.

I had a lot of deaths. Penelope and a LI got the "turned into supernatural being" scenario. So, vampires, while protecting the refugee quarters from strays attacks from the eternal underwar. Another LI had the "dying" date secret, followed up with the "wants you to end them" date secret, and then the "duel" scenario. With one extra LI from the "secret twin" date secret, I had a full 3/6: 50% of the cast die.

After Penelope died, I rerolled any events that implied her still being alive, but what have others done?

Oh wow your game seems to have a lot of twists and turns. It reads so much like a fun supernatural fiction. The most death I got was just 1 so far which for several games it's always the Protagonist. My villainess also always happened to die almost right away so I didn't need to make any changes, but I think rerolling sounds right for the event. I guess I should've ordered the extra scenarios better so maybe if prompt 5 is about Penelope, extra scenario prompt 5 should not be about Penelope.

I've just tried playing this game, and it's great! I've really enjoyed it. It's so fun, and the prompts create such unexpected and fun combinations!

The highlight of my game was when a demon (love interest) invited my angel character to a date in the Underworld and said that he wants her to become a fallen angel to be together.

I ended up playing for ~4 or ~5 hours, and I've written 24 A5 pages.

Thanks for the game, it's great!

(+1)

I'm glad you had fun! And I immediately ship them just with the highlight. What a perfect secret for the characters and the location 🔥

Today I decided to run 1 DM 1 player one shot with your rpg system similar to how this channel does 1 DM 1 player

My friend ended up rolling really great for days and ended up his last day event 23 and with each scenario roll he kept getting lucky critical success (his attribute was 5 lore 1 love) and took many advantages to heart reward which got him to decrease so many of bad ending counters lol

On last day of 23 when he made it he also triggered protagonist 10 heart Love Interest ( she was added mid session due to scenario or some sort) and ended up giving him the biggest plot twist secret of all time. Which was she was also isekaied into the world as he was

It was really fun to see and witness and it felt like post credit anime ed with that twist if that makes sense lol

(+1)

Oh wow that sounds really fun! I've never thought about playing it as a 1 DM 1 player game. And your friend had some great strategy and luck lol

The plot twist is wild and I love that it's the protagonist that got that. It really do feel like a post credit scene that get us like: ohhh so that's why she did this and that. Also sounds like its teasing for a new season lol

Enjoyed playing this again! This game is always great when I'm in a creative rut.

I've been tinkering with the digital sheet I personally use, and while it's not in the nicest condition to be copied I figured I'd share it in case anyone finds use in it:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GN_nWED3zO5_pWwkqtDjVcdOUaUsrsBgU_DSScooTEs/edit?usp=sharing

I use it to track the numbers and profiles while I have a separate document to actually journal.

Meanwhile, I have a few more fringe questions I wound up with in my last playthroughs!

  • Does Heart 10's #6 (extra counter decrease) apply for crit successes? Also, if you get it twice, does it stack or should you reroll?
  • Does the bonus for Heart 15 happen immediately, or do you choose when to use it?
  • Do you play any dates or scenarios on Day 30, or does the game end at the top of the round? More for those last minute affection levels.
(+1)

Omg that looks so nice! Would you mind if I have the link of the spreadsheet listed in the description?

1) It does. It includes crit successes and normal successes as well. Also, if you get it twice you can stack it. But I didn't use a number list for the options with the intention of having people roll. So if you like, you can pick another option or reroll!

2) You can choose when to use both -3 and 15 Hearts reward whenever you want. You don't have to use it if you don't want to!

3) The game ends at the end of Day 30. Of course, you can end it early or later if you like. I'd personally have an extra half Day 31 if I manage to get a date just for fun.

Thank you!! I'm glad to hear you like it. If you really think it's worth listing, by all means! I've tried to clean it up a bit to make it more copiable and explain how to use it if anyone wants to.

Thank you for all the answers!!

hello!

i have just downloaded the first of the games & have read through the documents a few times now. Maybe i've misread something but i'm a little confused. what are the mechanics behind the backgrounds or relationships w Penelope tht someone chooses? while i understand why the scenarios r kept kinda vague & i likely just need to start playing to fully understand them how do i determine if my background helps or hinders? have you considered constructing a character sheet document for players to print & then refer to?

im sorry if that's too many questions or if the answer is obvious, i'm just a curious bean & this game is so intriguing tht I'm going to start playing it anyway without waiting for a reply. I'll likely see the answers to my questions through the act of playing the game :)

Hi! So for the backgrounds (I'm assuming is the player character's role and background), as long as how you resolved it is related to one of them, it'll give you an advantage (an extra 1d6). Whether it helps or hinders you can be determined by the result of the roll and your own story. For example, let's say in this game, the PC is a princess and a mage, and the scenario is an LI enters your room at night, injured, if I "heal the LI using magic", then I get a +1d6 because how I resolved it is related to my PC's role; if I "call my personal guards to kick them out", then I get a +1d6 because how I resolved it is related to my PC's background; if I patch the LI up myself by tearing up a blanket, I don't get any extra dice.

Let's say it is still the same scenario. If you fail a roll, you can see that as your backgrounds have hindered you depending on the kind of story you want.

Using I "heal the LI using magic" as an example. If I've succeeded in this roll, perhaps the PC's magic performs well, healing the LI without issue. If I've failed this roll, perhaps the magic backfired, harming the LI even more; or the type of magic the PC used is outlawed, casting suspicion on myself.

At the same time, you don't have to necessarily make your background a huge deal when resolving the roll. Again, using the same scenario and I "heal the LI using magic" as an example, succeeding in a roll with your Love attribute could just mean the PC being worried and scolding the LI while healing them with magic comes off as endearing to this LI. If the roll is a fail, it could mean the PC's light scolding comes off as rude and inconsiderate, even if the magical healing works without issue. In these two cases, while the PC's role is involved in the rolling, giving the player an advantage, it does not affect the success or failure of that specific scenario narratively.

As for the relationship with Penelope, it doesn't have any mechanics behind it. It's just there to give you some insights as to what the character dynamic is like. You are free to choose any and free to bring it up whenever you like in the story. If you don't like any of the provided ones, you can create your own relationship as well.

As for character sheet, do you mean like a blank document for recording all the characters? I do want to create one if that's what you're referring to, seeing how there's quite a number of characters. I'll see what's the best way to make one.

I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you need any clarification or I've gotten something wrong regarding your questions!

(+1)

no you're amazing for this answer!! this cleared it up so well for me! i haven't done much solo ttrpg stuff so i'm very excited abt this especially bc i love these kinds of stories lol

yeah i was thinking of a blank document where one can keep track of the different characters! i've been formatting something like tht into the notebook i've found & i'm just a visual person when it comes to tracking chracter stuff so i find it helpful!

thank you again for such a thoughtful answer!

Glad that helps. I hope you'll love all the solo stuff out there cause a lot of them are so fun and interesting!

Hello, I'm a first time player and I had a question about BE. When you successful resolve the event or critical succeed you subtract 1/2 from your BE. Does the BE stop decreasing at 0 or does it go into negative digits?

Example:

The BE counter for the first BE is 2. Day 1 you roll a minor success -1 to the BE counter. Day 2 you roll a major success -2 to the BE counter.

Now BE1 is conquered but you have an unused point. Is it applied to BE2 or is it lost as unusable?

Hi! It stop decreasing at 0. And it is lost and cannot be used for another Bad Ending.

Thank you for the clarification! 🩵

Currently doing setup for my first run, and there is a question that I need clarification; there are 6 bad endings, you roll 2d6 to see what day those bad endings will be, for the first one, 2d6 if say landed 5 and 6, you are meant to addition/add together so the day of first bad ending is 11 right? And then for second and rest of them we use only 1d6 after day 11 yeah?

One last question: on how to play section "Then, resolve the scene by rolling 1d6. Roll +1d if your way to resolve this challenge is related to your role or background"

That +1d meant to say +1d6 correct?

Otherwise I should be all good to give it a shot

(+1)

First question: That is true! The second BE will be 11 + 1d6, and the third BE will be the second BE + 1d6 etc.

Second question: Yes. The +1d is roll an additional d6 and pick the best result.

(1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the updates! I played multiple runs before the updates and had a blast. Can't wait to use the new rules and settings!

Yay! I hope you'll find the new rules and settings fun to play with as well :D

This is a really great game! Thank you so much for making this available to all of us.

Lovely novel ideas.

Thank you for the comment! I hope you have great fun playing the game.

I love this game! The concept is very original and I really like the execution. When I first died, my reaction was delight because I could properly envision the bad ending I had made, haha.

Thank you so much! When I played it, I also liked getting the bad ends cause it was fun to write out what happened.

Hi! I just found your game and got my characters set up, but there is something that is unclear to me and doesn’t seem to be mentioned in the rules at all. On page 6, what is the Character - Goal and Focus table for? Is it for the Villainess? The other characters? In what situation(s) is it used?

Thanks! I can’t wait to get this game started!

(+1)

This is an optional tables for LI, protagonist or other npcs. It's used only if you want some inspirations for answering the prompts.

Hi! I started playing this awhile ago and I'm enjoying it! I just have a question, what are they ways to increase the attributes? Is it only increasable when you reached 10 hearts with an LI or are there other ways?

You are right, reaching 10 hearts is the only way!
